One thing I love about my job is that I have a front row seat to the entire design process.  When one of my designers meets a new client, they return to the office and discuss the new project.  What strikes me is that my designers talk about their new clients as new friends, not customers.  They get to know the personality of the family, and strive to honor that in the design.   And they do. I have yet to meet a homeowner who didn’t love their completed project.  It makes me so happy to work with a team who really love what they do, and thrive on the opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives.

Aside from that positive energy in the office, I love watching the process.  My designers design and spec everything that goes into a home before someone moves in…from space planning (moving and removing walls) to kitchen and bathroom design, fireplaces, offices and studies, staircases and trim work throughout a home, plumbing, lighting…

Some of my favorite designs are the “specialty” spaces.  Who wouldn’t want a perfectly designed  outdoor kitchen, wine cellar & tasting room, or built-in fish tank?  Or a “museum” for the treasured artifacts of an avid traveler and collector.  They’ve even designed a state-of-the-art gun safe.  The list goes on!

My day is often filled with the voices of my designers collaborating, asking advice on 75 year old plumbing, opinions on light fixtures, designing a Chihuly-style light fixture, or the latest trends in cabinetry.  Sometimes they even ask my opinion, as a busy mom of two (and design enthusiast). And that makes me look forward to coming into the office every day.
